Laborless Linky and Giveaway

Hello everyone!

ARE YOU REAAADDDY!!!

Main Graphic Laborless

It is Finally here!

Today I am linking with Laura from Where the Magic Happens, Krista from Teaching Momster, and Lisa from PAWsitively Teaching! I have joined forces once again with my bloggy friends to bring you the best, most amazing giveaway on this Labor Day weekend!

All of us have been thinking about  good ways in which to treat our readers and followers.   We thought hard, and I mean it! Really, really hard… and decided that  we can treat you to our best ideas to work smarter rather than harder… at school and home!

I know what it takes to be a great teacher, the stress, the time, the energy… I could go on and on! I also know that we crave time to ourselves and our families.

So here I go!

Slide1

I think one of the best ideas I have ever implemented is giving each student a job. I have the students do everything in the classroom. I have a messenger to go on errands, a computer technician to turn the computers on and off, chair stackers, a pencil sharpener student, classroom library helper, and anything else that is needed. It serves double duty because everything that is needed to be done that I don’t have time to do gets done and the students feel like they have any important role in the classroom. I rotate the jobs every week so every kids gets to do every job. Here is a picture of my job board.

So after a long and exhausting day at school with 4th graders,  I come home to my 4-year-old daughter. I love it! She helps me remember what is most important in life. I love snuggling with her on the couch watching a tv show or reading a book. That’s what I like to do to unwind at home!

So at the beginning of the school year everything is very hectic. There is so much extra stuff to do besides teach your class. Make sure to make your life a little easier with a sub tub. Many schools make them mandatory to have at the beginning of the year for emergencies. I have several in my TPT store but my most popular sub tub is Click Clack Moo Cows That Type Sub Plans.

My name is Jennifer and I live in Houston with my husband and 4 year old daughter. I currently teach 3rd grade. I teach in the same school district that I attended school. I also live in the same neighborhood that I teach in. It is always great to see kids from the school in the stores and restaurants around the community. It feels like a small town even though we live in a huge city.
There are so many things I love about Houston. One of my favorite things is Rodeo Houston!
logo_houston_livestock_show_rodeo (1)
It definitely takes over the city for the first 3 weeks of March. They always have great entertainers. There is something there for everyone including livestock, awesome food, shopping, and the carnival. The best part is they give away a lot of money every year to scholarships for kids.

These pictures are of my daughter from several years ago. She always has such a great time and we look forward to taking her to the rodeo this year.
One of the lessons I love doing with my kids is reading Cook-a-Doodle-doo! written by Janet Stevens. I read this book as an introduction to procedural text. This is a great book to show the importance of following directions.

After reading the book the kids make their own cupcakes. They have so much fun.

IMG_1692   IMG_1695

Cook-a-Doodle-doo! also has homophones and homographs in the story. I have an activity that goes along with the story that I use that deals with the multiple word meaning. If you are interested go check out a preview of the activity in my TPT store.

I wanted to include the cupcake recipe and comprehension page that we use for teaching procedural text. I have been using it for many years. I got it from a great website called The Virtual Vine. You can download the recipe and activity by clicking on the recipe below.

My Favorite Things Blog Hop

Welcome to a few of my Favorite Things Blog Hop! This is such a fun blog hop hosted by my blogging friend Laura from Where the Magic Happens. So let’s get started! Below are a list of a few of my favorite things.

Slide1

My favorite tradition to do during the holidays is to bake. I started this tradition years ago with my niece when she was about 3 years old. Now I get to do the tradition with my daughter that is almost 4 years old. I can’t wait to see her put the icing and sprinkles on the cookies this year. This was a picture of her helping me when she was 2 years old.

Another favorite thing of mine is spending time with my friends. We have several special occasions in December. We always try to make it out to our favorite restaurant sometime during this busy time of the year. We love going to Melting Pot. There is something about the atmosphere and yummy food that keep us coming back. It seems like the more couples that go, the more fun we have.

My last favorite thing is shopping. I love to get a great deal! One of my favorite stores in Macy’s. I always feel like I get a deal when their clothes are on sale and I have a coupon. I really like it when I have a gift card too! That’s why I am giving a $25 gift card from Macy’s to one lucky winner!

macys_gift_cardI am also having my brand new Christmas item, Math Project-Plan a Christmas Vacation,  50% off during the blog hop. Make sure to check it out and all the other blogger’s featured items. You can search on TPT  at #myfavoritethings2014 to see all of the sale items.

I am with my little brother, the hobo, and my cousin,  Raggedy Andy. Such awesome memories. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays and this is one of the reasons why.

Creative Teacher Craft Giveaway

I have joined again with some really creative bloggers to do a fun crafty teacher blog hop! Melissa over at Teacher Treasure Hunter came us with the great creative teacher craft giveaway. You must contact me within 3 days with mailing information if you are the winner. All entries will be verified.

Crafter Teacher Header

I love looking on Pinterest for fun crafts. The craft that I made for my classroom and for the giveaway was inspired by a pin I found. These Dr. Seuss magnets are what you get to win in the giveaway. These were so easy to make. So if you don’t win you can make them yourself by following the directions below.

dr seuss magnetsSupplies

supplies for Dr. Seuss magnetsPick your favorite children’s book that you would like to use. Make sure some of the pictures are small enough to put under the glass marbles. You will also need Mod Podge, a brush, magnets, and glass gems. I bought all of these supplies at Michael’s. You can get the glass gems at a dollar store also. They are near the vases. You will also need a glue gun.

Directions

dr seuss magnet craft   Dr. Seuss

First, find a picture out of the book and cut it out. I cut out a little extra so I had plenty of room to fit it on the gem. It was a little difficult to cut up such a beloved book but, it was an old book. I have another one that is newer. You can look around at resale shops for really inexpensive books. Second, you will place the gem on top of picture and cut off the excess.

dr suess magnet makingThen you will brush the Mod Podge on the back of the picture and stick the picture to the flat side of the glass gem. Next brush the Mod Podge on the back on the gem to make sure the picture stays in place.  Set them aside to dry for a while. I let them dry overnight. My daughter had to make her own magnets. She loves using the Mod Podge.

magnet Dr. SeussLastly, You will put a dot of glue from the glue gun on the back of the magnet and then push the gem on top of the magnet. Let it dry for a minute and they are done.

The Creative Teacher Giveaway! 1 for Me & 1 for You

I have joined with some really creative bloggers to do a fun blog hop! Melissa over at Teacher Treasure Hunter came us with the great teacher giveaway.

giveaway blogThe Creative Teacher Giveaway is a blog hop with other bloggers that have all made hand crafted items that you can win. All you have to do is enter at the Rafflecopter below and then go to the next blog and do the same there. Each blog is doing its own giveaway so you can enter for only those items that you like. I hope you enjoy all of the crafts. I have seen them and they are awesome! I can’t wait to go enter the giveaways on the other blogs.

Here is the craft that I made. I made one for me and one for you! Well really it’s for my daughter, since she has already taken it.

loveMy craft that I made was inspired from Pinterest. I found it here. It was really easy and fun to make. I was able to buy all the supplies at Michael’s in one shopping trip.  I bought  letters, board, paint, Mod Podge, scrapbook paper, flower, and jewels.

imageI painted the letters and board. After they dried I cut the scrapbook paper and  used Mod Podge to attach it to the letters. My daughter really loved helping me make it. She went a little crazy with the Mod Podge but, don’t worry that is the one she is keeping!

image (2)Next, I sanded the edges to make it look worn. I then used my glue gun to attach the letters to the board. Finally, we added the flower and some jewels on the letters. That is it! You can look at the Pinterest link above for the directions that I followed.

image (5)I think they both turned out pretty good for being my first time trying something like this. I hope you like it! If you would like to win one of these then enter the Raffelcopter below.
